الفن أو الفنون هي قدرة لاستنطاق الذات بحيث تتيح للإنسان التعبير عن نفسه او محيطه بشكل بصري او صوتي او حركي،	Art is the ability to evoke the self, allowing a person to express themselves or their surroundings in a visual, auditory, or kinetic form,
ومن الممكن أن يستخدمها الإنسان لترجمة الأحاسيس والصراعات التي تنتابه في ذاته الجوهرية،	A person may also use it to translate the feelings and conflicts that arise within their innermost self,
وليس بالضرورة تعبيرا عن حاجته لمتطلبات في حياته رغم أن بعض العلماء يعتبرون الفن ضرورة حياتية للإنسان كالماء والطعام.	It is not necessarily an expression of one's needs in life, although some scholars consider art to be a vital necessity for humans, just like water and food.
فالفن هو موهبة وإبداع وهبها الخالق لكل إنسان لكن بدرجات تختلف بين الفرد والآخر.	Art is a talent and creativity granted by the Creator to every human being, but in varying degrees from one person to another.
بحيث لا نستطيع أن نصنف كل الناس بفنانين إلا الذين يتميزون منهم بالقدرة الإبداعية الهائلة،	Thus, we cannot classify everyone as an artist except for those who stand out with exceptional creative abilities,
فكلمة الفن هي دلالة على المهارات المستخدمة لإنتاج أشياء تحمل قيمة جمالية،	The word 'art' refers to the skills used to create things that hold aesthetic value,
على تعريفة فمن ضمن التعريفات أن الفن مهارة – حرفة – خبرة – إبداع – حدس –محاكاة.	In its definition, art encompasses various meanings such as skill- craft- experience- creativity- intuition- imitation.

تعريف وتقييم للفن أصبحت مشكلة خاصة منذ أوائل القرن العشرين على يد ريتشارد ووليهم.	The definition and evaluation of art has become a particular challenge since the early 20th century, especially through the work of Richard Wollheim.
يميز ثلاثة مناهج :	He distinguished three approaches:
الواقعية،	Realism,
حيث الجودة الجمالية هي قيمة مطلقة مستقلة عن رأي الإنسان	Where aesthetic quality is considered an absolute value, independent of human opinion
الموضوعية،	Objectivism,
حيث أنه هو أيضا قيمة مطلقة،	Where it is also considered an absolute value,
ولكن يعتمد على التجربة الإنسانية عامة	But it relies on the general human experience
النسبوية،	Relativism,
وهو ليس من قيمة مطلقة،	Where it is not an absolute value,
بل هي المنحى الفلسفي الذي يعدم وجود حقيقة مطلقة.	Rather, it is the philosophical approach that denies the existence of an absolute truth.
