Can you save partially aligned documents?

Hi,
Hope you can help as I have searched the site and not found any information about this. I first tried the alignment tool on just a few segments of a document. I noticed when I finished playing with it, it did not offer any option to save the aligned segments and come back to finish it later. I then set about aligning a whole document. It was going along very nicely when I had to stop and go out. I hit the "align" button, hoping there would be a way to edit ie finish the alignment later. This does not seem possible, am I right? I will now delete the useless TM file and try starting again.
Any advice much appreciated.
