Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition caused by compression of a key nerve in the wrist.	متلازمة النفق الرسغي حالة مؤلمة يتسبب بها الضغط على أحد الأعصاب الرئيسية في الرسغ.
It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist.	يحدث ذلك عندما يتعرض العصب الأوسط للضغط أو الالتواء، وهو عصب يمتد من الساعد إلى راحة اليد.
Symptoms usually start gradually, with pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm.	وتبدأ الأعراض بالظهور تدريجياً على شكل آلام أو ضعف أو خدر في اليد والرسغ وتمتد هذه الآلام إلى الجزء الأعلى من اليد.
As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day, and decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects, or perform other manual tasks.	ومع تدهور الحالة، قد يشعر المصابين بوخز أثناء اليوم وضعف تدريجي في قبض الأصابع مما يصعب معه إحكام القبضة أو التقاط الأشياء الصغيرة أو إنجاز الأعمال اليدوية.
In some cases no direct cause of the syndrome can be identified.	وفي بعض الحالات لا يمكن تحديد سبب مباشر للإصابة بهذه المتلازمة.
Most likely the disorder is due to a congenital predisposition - the carpal tunnel is simply smaller in some people than in others.	وغالباً ما يكون هذا المرض بسبب استعداد وراثي بمعنى أن النفق الرسغي عند بعض الناس أصغر منه عند غيرهم.
The risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome is especially common in those who preform repetitive work tasks, such as assembly line work.	وتزداد مخاطر الإصابة بمتلازمة النفق الرسغي عند أولئك الذي يؤدون أعمالاً متكررة مثل من يعملون في خطوط التجميع.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is also associated with pregnancy and diseases such as diabetes, thyroid disease, or rheumatoid arthritis.	وتحدث الإصابة بمتلازمة النفق الرسغي عند الحمل أو عند الإصابة ببعض الأمراض مثل مرض السكري أو اعتلال الغدة الدرقية أو التهاب المفاصل الروماتزمي.
Initial treatment generally involves resting the affected hand and wrist for at least 2 weeks, avoiding activities that may worsen symptoms, and immobilizing the wrist in a splint to avoid further damage from twisting or bending.	وتشتمل معالجة الحالة بداية بالراحة لمدة أسبوعين على الأقل لليد والرسغ المصابة وبتجنب الأعمال التي قد تزيد الحالة سوءً وبتثبيت حركة الرسغ بجبيرة لتفادي المزيد من الضرر بالثني أو الالتواء.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, other nonprescription pain relievers, and oral steroids (prednisone) may ease pain.	وقد يخفف الألم الأدوية المضادة للالتهاب غير الستيرويدية مثل الأسبرين أو أيوبروفين أو غيرها من مسكنات الألم التي لاتحتاج إلى وصفة طبية أو بالأدوية الستيرويدية مثل (بريدنيزون).
Steroid injections can also be used to alleviate the swelling and pressure on the median nerve.	ويمكن حقن الأدوية الستيرويدية لتحفيف التورم والضغط على العصب الأوسط.
For more severe cases of carpal tunnel syndrome, open carpal tunnel release surgery or endoscopic carpal tunnel release may be recommended.	وفي حالات الإصابة الحادة بمتلازمة النفق الرسغي قد يوصى بالجراحة أو جراحة المناظير لتخفيف الضغط على العصب.
