الفن أو الفنون هي قدرة لاستنطاق الذات بحيث تتيح للإنسان التعبير عن نفسه او محيطه بشكل بصري او صوتي او حركي،	Art or fine arts is the ability of self examination which provide the human being with a means of expression of the self and its surroundings through a visual, auditory or performative medium,
ومن الممكن أن يستخدمها الإنسان لترجمة الأحاسيس والصراعات التي تنتابه في ذاته الجوهرية،	and the person can sue the ability to translate his feelings or the struggles that afflict him in his innermost self,
وليس بالضرورة تعبيرا عن حاجته لمتطلبات في حياته رغم أن بعض العلماء يعتبرون الفن ضرورة حياتية للإنسان كالماء والطعام.	it is not necessarily an expression of his necessity to meet the demands of everyday life, although some scientists consider arts a basic human need like water and food.
فالفن هو موهبة وإبداع وهبها الخالق لكل إنسان لكن بدرجات تختلف بين الفرد والآخر.	Art is talent and creativity granted by the Creator to every human being but to degrees that vary between one individual and the other.
بحيث لا نستطيع أن نصنف كل الناس بفنانين إلا الذين يتميزون منهم بالقدرة الإبداعية الهائلة،	Thus, we cannot categorise all people as artists, but only those of them who stand out with enormous creative ability,

تعريف وتقييم للفن أصبحت مشكلة خاصة منذ أوائل القرن العشرين على يد ريتشارد ووليهم.	The definition and appreciation of art have become a particular problem since the beginning of the twentieth century at the hands of Richard Wollheim.
يميز ثلاثة مناهج :	He differentiates three approaches:
الواقعية،	Realism,

وهو ليس من قيمة مطلقة،	whereby it is not an absolute value,
بل هي المنحى الفلسفي الذي يعدم وجود حقيقة مطلقة.	as it is a philosophical doctrine which denies the existence of absolute truth.
