第二世代と第三世代では一切のデータの互換性がなくなった。	第二代和第三代的数据，则互相完全不兼容。
第三世代以降は後世代への一方向のポケモン移動が可能である。	从第三代开始，可以单向朝以后的世代转移口袋妖怪。
データの互換性が低くなる理由は、世代が更新されるたびに新たなポケモン・わざ・アイテムなどが追加される為である。	数据兼容性变低的原因是，每代更新时，都会增加新的口袋妖怪、技能、道具等。
逆に言えば、世代が更新されない限り新ポケモンや新アイテムが追加されることはない。	反之，除非更新世代，否则不会有新的口袋妖怪或新道具加入。
なお、一部例外はあり、例えば、「はっきんだま」は第四世代の途中（『プラチナ』）で新たに追加されたアイテムである。	然而，也有一些例外，例如，白金玉是在第四代（《口袋妖怪白金》）中新增的道具。
そのため、このアイテムには「通信交換できない」等の特殊な制約がある。	因此，这个道具有“不能进行通信交换”等的特殊限制。
同一世代であっても後で発売されたソフトで追加された道具・技・フォルムは先に発売されたソフトには転送できない場合がある。	在同一代的后期版本中增加的道具、技能和形态可能无法转移到同一代的早期版本。
なお、フォルムチェンジ等に関しては、多くの作品では古い側からは通常のフォルムで表示される。	至于形态转换等，大部分作品中老版本转移过来的口袋妖怪都是以普通形态显示。
