Le droit pénal ou droit criminel est la branche du droit qui détermine des comportements antisociaux (les infractions), et prévoit la réaction de la société envers ces comportements, le plus souvent sous forme d'une peine pénale.	Penal law or criminal law is a branch of law which decides on anti-social behaviour (crimes), and anticipates society's reaction towards this behaviour, most often by some type of criminal punishment.
Le droit pénal concerne le rapport entre la société en général et un individu.	Criminal law is all about the relationship between society in general and an individual.
Il est souvent opposé au droit civil, qui concerne les rapports entre deux personnes morales ou physiques.	It is often contrary to civil law as far as the relationships between moral or physical persons are concerned.
