En France, le terme de télécommunication a été remplacé par celui de communication électronique dans les textes réglementaires (en particulier dans le Code des Postes et Télécommunications, devenu Code des postes et des communications électroniques 1).	The term ‘telecommunication’ has been replaced by ‘electronic communication’ in French legislative texts (particularly in the Post and Electronic Communications Code (1), formerly known as the Post and Telecommunications Code).

Since analogue technologies (which were formerly used in telecommunications) are gradually being abandoned in favour of digital technologies, the term ‘digital communications’ is sometimes used instead of ‘electronic communications’; however, it is better to use the latter term if no reference is made to this technical distinction between analogue and digital.
